Why must a couple "In love & committed" Be told or DEMANDED to get married 2 be recognized by society?

You can be perfectly happy and be in love and not be married. Sure, it may be looked down on in today's society, but it's really not a problem. What is important is the way you and your family feel, and if you're all happy, then hey! No problems!
